Sensor IT and the Digital Security by Design Programme
What is the DSbD The Digital Security by Design (DSbD) is an initiative supported by the UK government to transform digital technology and create a more resilient, and secure foundation for a safer future. Through collaboration between academia, industry and government, these new capabilities will pave the way business and people can use and trust technology. The Programme is supported by a consortium of more than 30 of the world’s leading technology companies, academic institutions and researchers and UK government agencies. These include ARM, lowRISC, University of Cambridge, Google, Thales, University of Edinburgh, Hewlett Packard, University of Oxford, Innovate UK, Microsoft, University of Manchester, Digital Catapult, Linaro, Kings College London, National Cyber Security Centre and UK Research and Innovation. The latest cohort from the programme marks a new chapter for our Technology Access Programme, introducing lowRISC’s open source Sonata™ board alongside the established Arm’s Morello board. The implementation of CHERI in hardware will equip participating companies with the capabilities of CHERIoT OS (CHERI for IoT), providing an expanded toolkit to address critical security challenges. This development underscores the programme’s commitment to building a more resilient foundation for a safer digital future in the UK, and will enable participating deep tech companies to scale their solutions faster. Sensor IT was one of those companies selected for the Programme, and we completed our participation early on 2023 for Cohort 1, focusing on the evaluation of the Morello Board. More recently, October 2024, we have been selected, again, to participate in this programme, this time to evaluated the innovative Sonata Board. LowRISC Sonata Board We’re excited to work with Digital Catapult and leading industry experts to realise a better digital future faster by leveraging lowRISC’s Sonata board to lower vulnerabilities in our products and systems. Being part of the sixth cohort of the Digital Security by Design (DSbD) programme, funded by UK Research and Innovation, is a huge step forward in security innovation.
