Smart Care Home

Healthcare systems have finally recognised the advantages of using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve the quality of the services they provide. New technologies such as theInternet of Things (IoT) can dramatically improve the services provided and even add functionality that would have been unthinkable without the use of Smart Technologies.

The Solution

With the advent of IoT as the new approach to automatise existing processes, the concept of smart healthcare has gradually come to the forefront of those environments that must be modernised and streamlined. Smart healthcare uses a new generation of IoT elements, which include easily-deployable endpoints, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, to transform the traditional medical system in an all-round way, making healthcare more efficient, more convenient, and more personalised.

The figure below represents our Smart Care Home system, comprising a number of elements that aim to provide such convenient, efficient and more personalised care that Care Home residents deserve, and at the same time allowing for proactive monitoring that will minimise, if not eliminate, delays in providing the support they need.

Sensor IT’s Smart Care Home is a work in progress. Through conversations with our sponsor Care Home, room, care home-wide endpoints and other elements that make up the system are being developed, with the aim to become the best, customised Smart Care Home system available in the UK. Technical Details

Data Flow

Our Smart Care Home system is based on capturing key data through Endpoints. Such data will be presented to Care Workers which can then make informed decisions around the actions that need to be taken to address the issues that arise from unexpected situations or incidents. The system also adds a layer of traceability around the care being provided, allowing close monitoring and reporting based on incident response times and other parameters.

The diagram below represents the flow of data for those Endpoints that capture data, which form the basis for the system in terms of data presentation layer.

Layer 1

Endpoint

Endpoint defines any component that captures data to be used by the system, for instance Bed Occupancy Sensors

Layer 2

WIFI Network

Our Smart Care Home system uses standard wireless access data communication protocols, hence not requiring additional equipment installation and expenses

Layer 3

Dashboard

Run by Sensor IT or any other third-party, the Dashboard captures the data generated by the Endpoint and presents it in an actionable way for end users to act on

Dashboard

The data captured by the devices is presented in real time by a cloud-based Dashboard.

Sensor IT uses, whenever possible, standard communication protocols and formats, and this solution is no different. The data can be presented by Sensor IT’s own Dashboard or any other third-party product, once the integration work is completed.

Target Audience

Potential users of our Smart Care Home system are care homes that want to use technology as the means to provide optimum levels of care.

However, we believe that not only Care Homes can benefit from our system, and several components that make up the system could potentially be deployed to provide additional use cases, for instance in residential scenarios.
